While a reprint of *very* old publication, this commentary on the New Testament has lost little of its brilliance and relevance. Specifically, John Wesley's annotated meditations on the N.T. provided me the intellectual and spiritual justification for breaking with/leaving the seemingly air-tight-but-soul-killing arguments of hard-core Calvinism. Wesley is one of the few men with the moral stature to take on (though always indirectly, and even unintentionally) the abuses/perversions of the Calvinistic interpretations of Scripture--especially St. Paul's Letter to the Romans (and his Letter to the Ephesians)! If you're a conflicted believer struggling to hold onto your faith in the God who is Love but generally persuaded by the Calvinists' proof texts and argumentation, please do not hesitate to pick up and read John Wesley's commentary, which (I believe, correctly) redefines and breathes new life into the classic "predestination" passages of the Christian Bible...and into the New Testament in general!Product details

Explanatory notes upon the New Testament John Wesley 9781177923712 Books Reviews
This is roberry...text is awfully reprinted and you cannot read it how small the letters are,the text is for pocket version, awfull
Would not recommend. Product is a reproduction of the original with horrible little letters. Also it only goes to Acts, not the ENTIRE New Testament. This is definitely a joke, better off printing PDF of the free available notes because this isn't worth the money. Very disappointed in the way the product is packaged, not in Wesleys notes.
He would come back from heaven and take the "modern United Methodists" to the wood shed if he could!!!
Great and easy way to get J-Dubs notes
No, unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations. I only received the first of the two volume sets when the product was clearly marked as possessing both volume.
This book contains Wesley's curious revision of the KJV (erroneously thought to be a 'translation') with "his" commentary. "His" is in quotes because Wesley did not actually write the notes attributed to him. He largely abridged them from Matthew Henry and M. Poole by redacting their Calvinistic bias. The New Testament notes, though, are chiefly based on J. A. Bengel's Gnomon of the New Testament - and Wesley himself said it would have been a greater service if he had just translated the Gnomon itself.
Nonetheless, Wesley's commentary is a 'standard' of the Methodist tradition. One would do better to read Adam Clarke or D. D. Whedon, though, if one desires some original Methodist exegesis. And of course the Gnomon is available in English.
